Slice on Broadway – 2128 Broadway Ave., Beechview, PA 15216

Slice on Broadway used to be this city’s best kept secret,  but I think the word is getting out pretty quickly. They were  recently voted “best pizza in Pittsburgh” by the listeners of STAR 100.7 radio station. Huge accomplishment for only being in business for a fairly short time. This tiny BYOB, also has dynamite hoagies and salads to go along with their pizza. This place is run by two young guys who are determined to do things the right way and it shows in everything they make. Everything is fresh, homemade and just delicious!

Let me first tell you about the awesome pizza. I first tried their pizza a little less than a year ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. Their pizza is a ”New York style” pizza. Wait, I’m going to stop myself right there. I’m tired of New York taking credit for everything….New York style pizza, cheesecake and just the other day while watching TV I saw an ad for a popular brand of hotdogs now offered, you guessed it, “New York style”. This pizza is better than any pizza I’ve had claiming to be “New York style”. I think they’ve created their own niche and I’m calling it “BEECHVIEW STYLE” pizza. Take that New York!!!

Their pizzas come by the slice, small pie to a “ginormous” size pie. One of my favorites is the Margherita pizza. Its made with deliciously fresh crushed tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella and fresh basil, then drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. It’s so simple yet so flavorful. The “Frisky billy-goat” is another one of my favorites. It consists of meatballs, goat cheese, and roasted red peppers. As the menu says, “try it if you’re feeling frisky”.  I also like to get a simple pepperoni pizza and have them throw fresh basil on it just as they pull it out of the oven. Makes my car smell like basil and pepperoni (not a bad air freshener). Not only do they have a white pizza, like most places,  but they also have a pizza done with a basil pesto sauce. I haven’t tried one yet but I’ve been told the “Fancy Pants” is delicious. It comes with basil pesto sauce, prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. This one is very high on my list to try. I really like their pizza with a nice glass of red wine or a cold beer.

Their hoagies are also very fresh and unique. Lets start with the bread; they use a 10 inch Breadworks baguette that is crunchy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. Their Italian hoagie is bit different from the typical one found in Pittsburgh. They start with Genoa salami, mortadella, capicola and provolone cheese, topped with lettuce, tomato, sliced red onions and their house balsamic vinaigrette. Delicious!!! My favorite is the Venetian which consists of hot sopressata, genoa salami, mozzarella and provolone topped with artichoke hearts, spinach, sliced red onion and their house balsamic vinaigrette. Best served with your favorite cold beer. The other hoagie I get on a regular basis is the Gonzo which consists of sliced steak, bacon, gorgonzola, mozzarella and provolone cheese and then topped with spinach, red onion, and balsamic vinaigrette. They also make their own pesto mayo that works on any of their sandwiches. Again very fresh, homemade and delicious.

I encourage you to come on out to Slice on Broadway and discover the next best thing to hit Pittsburgh, “BEECHVIEW STYLE” pizza!!! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
